A 74 Challenger with a 360 takes which tranny? 727 or 904? And is the tailshaft 14.75" or 18.75"?

It would be the 727 for sure. If those are lengths from the Factory parts manual I would say the shorter one.

I would use a 727 if you don't have the original transmission.

?? You lost me there bud. I'll agree with you if we are talking manual transmission, but there is no different length tailshaft on 727's.

After re reading the original post, the 727 has a longer tailshaft. My comment on length was in reference to driveshaft lengths between the two.
So the answer is 727 and it will have a 45.79" long driveshaft with 7260 joints.
