I noticed the power kicked in at a higher RPM, my tach isn't working right now, but I would guess between 2500-3000 rpm.  i know this is how it's supposed to work, but, what would changing vaccum springs do?   There also seemed to be a small hesitation just B4 power kicked in.  I know I'm just getting started w/ the tuning of my carbs, but it's nice to learn this stuff for myself.

As far as my lights, they dimmed because the alternator wasn't charging my battery.  any ideas?  I'm not familiar, (yet), w/ how to check the charging system.

Holley sells a vacuum pod spring kit with different color/tension springs. Those big vacuum pods on the front and rear carbs, are holding the throttle plates closed with these springs. By changing the tension, you are "adjusting" the amount of ported vacuum needed to pull open those carbs. You need to tighten them up, if they open too soon, or loosen them if they open too late.  The only way to tell what your motor likes, is to start playing with them.  You may also have to get a set of pump squirter cams to increase the pump shot if the engine BOGS, before the 6pack opens.   

One more thing,  There are jet plates in the front and rears, but that's a whole other chapter....... to carb tuning.   

Just drive it, make sure that you're not lean, and enjoy it.

Will do....Are the jet plates the thing that allow for larger quantity of fuel when the vaccum pulles?

I've got a friend who has also been advising me.  He seems to know about 6pacs.  He explained that these carbs were typically set up for emmissions, and that they could run lean, which could cause overheating.  He's told me about checking timing @ both 2700 rpm vs idle and possibly changing distributor spring, as well as the other carb adjustments that may be needed.  I'm taking it a step at a time.

Proform has a conversion metering plate to allow the use of normal threaded jets like the center carb has

Thanks,  I'll look into that as well as the vaccum springs.  I see that summit sells a metering plate, is that the same as proform's billet?  Is 1 better than the other?

the Holley plates have predrilled jet sizes & you have to buy a different plate for every jet change the Promax conversion plates allow you to use a regular Holley jet kit to tune jetting instead - www.promaxcarbs.com
