found a 1971 r/t n96 challenger
« on: June 09, 2006 - 07:31:59 PM »
I dont have pictures, but i found a 1971 tawny gold n96 challenger.  It has the numbers matching 383 and 727, buckets, console, vinyl top, power steering, and manual brakes.  The car is extremely ruff.  Needs a full restoration, but all the parts are there.  What is it worth when you figure it will take a very high dollar restoration to do it right.

So in all honesty WIW?

Lots, they only built something like 6 or 8 N69 challengers in '71.

Just a note of caution. I can remember reading an article that was written by Galen Guru in a magazine . It stated that there were no N96 71 383 Challengers built. This is not to say there weren't because Mr. Guru has been known to be wrong. It might be worthwhile if your considering this car to try and verify the information on the car ie a buildsheet especially if the seller is presenting the car as a numbers matching car.

I've seen a 71 383 shaker hood R/T Challenger in my area.  I didn't pour over the car but it looked legit and the broadcast sheet was present + matched.  Owner doesn't want to sell .

1970 had very few N96 Challengers. Prior to the start of the 1971 model year, they had remedied the safety issue with the hoods by adding the crumple zones. '71 Challengers are much more plentiful with N96 than they were with the 1970 Challenger models.
