Daytona, was that Challenger sold in Lorain, OH when new??? I read an article on what I think is the same car and remember it being built in Lorain....where I live. Thought it was pretty unusual as Lorain is Ford country and there were never many Mopars around, let alone a Hemi R/T SEs......

Wow that is a real cool story! but I don't think I could have been able to part with such a rare and fine car as THAT one! How did you do it? I would still be crying about my loss! BUT I am sure you have replaced it with another fine MOPAR!! :woohoo: Great story!! Thanks for sharing!!

Cool story, I saw that car 2 or 3 years ago at a car show in Wilmington, NC, which is not too far from Pawley's Island, maybe and hour, hour and a half drive.  What surprised me is that the guy drove it to the show and it was not a particularly nice day, as it rained almost all day long.  How many people would drive their Hemi RT/SE pilot car in the rain?  I remember getting four business cards from the guy at different event and he had a picture of a different car he owned on each card.  There was the RT/SE, a black on black T/A, a 69 Daytona, and a 64 Dodge or Plymouth, probably a early Hemi or Max Wedge car, so he had quite a collection of cars as well.

I sold him (Brownie Mascow)the triple black T/A and the Daytona at the same time he bought the HEMI RT/SE....very nice guy....I also sold him a red/red T/A, a Plum Crazy/white Challenger RT 440 conv. and a  Lime/blk 440 6 BBL Cuda.....sold him 6 cars in 10 days...he bought the red Max Wedge at the MOPAR Nats the following summer... he had quite a few other cars in his collection then too....

DAYTONA i read all these articles about you and these ultra rare cars.  I was wondering, obviously you have been a Mopar man for a while, but how did you get your hands on some of these rides?  Hemi RT/SE, Daytona, T/As, 'Vert Cudas, etc.  Amazing

the first MOPAR I bought was in 1980, a 69 Dodge Daytona.....I was going to buy a 78 Pace Vette that day and the Dodge just happened to be sitting in a driveway (just a few blocks from my business) for the day airing out....I stopped and bought it on the spot....

many were bought thru Hemmings Motor News(the way it was done before the internet)....many were bought thru personal connections I made....I had many cars in dozens of magazines and books, and that always brought more people looking to talk/sell....I attended MOPAR shows for years always looking for rare cars to purchase...I paid $1K finders fees to people that steered me to rare cars...the more I owned, the more people came to me to sell, or tell me about cars for sale.....the majority of the cars I purchased were from the midwest......more in a 3 state area than all the rest of the USA it seemed...this last week, I just bought a low mile original Challenger T/A on EBay.....

....I just keep my eyes, ears and wallet open  :roflsmiley:

Daytona I will never get tired of hearing about the cars you have owned and the stories about them. I have been in the hobby since the early 80's and just never had enough money to buy what I really wanted. I wanted to drive and enjoy them and sometimes run the crap out of them which I did. The Hemi Challenger must of been a handful as I thought my 70 Cuda 440-6 was nose heavy with no power steering.

it was repainted in 1985 and most of the rest of it is original.....it only has 45K miles or so...it was raced in its early days, and retired with all the original drivetrain still in tact...it is a matching numbers piece...

Daytona I will never get tired of hearing about the cars you have owned and the stories about them. I have been in the hobby since the early 80's and just never had enough money to buy what I really wanted.

I'm glad everyones not asleep, or bored sh!tless by now :roflsmiley:

I like to remember some of the good times I had in the automotive/MOPAR hobby, and I hope others might gather a little knowledge, or gain an idea...

...I had owned a few old Vettes before switching to MOPARS, they were in the $2K to $4K price range then.....the Daytona in 1980 cost me $9K.....the owner financed it for a year at 6% and I paid it off in 10 months....I always joked I paid for the car .25 cents at a time....I had just bought some video games(Pac Man, etc etc) and I was putting them out everywhere I could ......I devoted all the profits from the games to the Daytona till it was fully paid for(the machines paid for themselves in about 5 weeks in the early days)....

....then I purchased a T/A for $5300....34K mile, 4 spd Go-Mango car......I got a bank loan for 90 days .....then the video profits went towards that car loan till it was paid down...

... I bought another T/A in a few weeks and got a second 90 day loan for it also....now I was overstocked and had to sell one.... I went to the MOPAR Nats in about 1985 and solld the orange T/A and a few weeks later sold the lime T/A....it was addicting buying and selling cars, and especially making a profit on them....I became hooked and the cars began to roll thru my garage, some staying longer than others....but that is basically how I got started, just a couple of small loans.....the next cars I borrowed less and less till I was finally financing the cars myself out of the profits..

my first overstock situation :roflsmiley:

GoMango was leaving for Minnesota the next day, and the Lime T/A left a short while later.....the Lime T/A was a local one owner all original car with 54K miles, GoMango had just had a repaint about 1982, but all else was original....both were numbers matching 4spds....both T/A Challengers were gone, this left me with a couple thousand $$$ profit to shop for another car....let the games begin

Cool cars... I wish I kept pictures of all the Cuda's and Challenger's I had. I started buying in 1973 and up until about 85. I ended up selling my 70 Shaker hood six pack Challenger in 79 and used the money to buy a house which turned out to be a good move.
The nice thing about getting them back then was they were still pretty fresh and you could race them without doing much. When the Arab oil embargo hit in 74 everybody dumped their six pack set ups and put 4 barrels on. You could buy the complete set up at the used parts counter at the local speed shop for a $100.00. I bought a 70 six pack, 4 speed/Dana Cuda for $800.00 in 74 with 37,000 miles  :bananasmi
