I'm in the same boat as you. I love the idea of a missle off the line and stroker seems to be the answer.

Heck if your motor is already 30 over and doesn't need to go larger when you start rebuilding it, why not consider a stroker motor. This is what I have read up on.

4340 Steel Stroker Crank 4.00
Clevite H Race Rods
Clevite or Federal-Mogul Main Bearings
Ross or Pistons would need to be atleast 10.5:1 (11:1 or 12:1 would be ideal)
ARP Rod, Main and Head Bolts/Studs
484 or 508 Hydraulic Cam/Lifters or 528 Solid Cam/Lifters
Heads are key with atleast 2.02In and 1.60Ex, ported/polished would be nice.
Edelbrock Perf Intake or Indy Intake
Holley 870 Street Avenger or King Demon Mighty Demon

Anyone else got any setups they want to share or suggestions to this configuration?

Well, here's one that was done two years ago. seasoned 340 block, .030 over to start. Machining included :clean and inspect, deburr, magnaflux, install ARP main studs, align hone mains, bore to .038 over, square deck to blueprint deck height, clearance block for rod bolts, hone to final size based on pistons (Ross custom dished .040 over), competition internal balance assembly, inspect/correct Edelbrock RPM heads, gasket match and blend of bowls, assemble completepan to intake. The parts list is: MP cast 4" 340 mains crank, Eagle H beam rods, Ross pistons, Speed Pro moly rings, Clevite mains and rods, rods with large chamfer, durabond cam bearings, Straightline Performance solid flat tappet cam, Comp lifters, springs, pushrods, MP aluminum 1.5 roller rockers, Cheapoe 1 5/8 headers, Edelbrock RPM small chamber heads, Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, MP distributor and Holley 3310 750 carb. It's 10.8:1 compression, runs on 92 pump fuel, idles with 13" of vaccum in gear. Last chassis dyno (no tuning, just numbers) it made 400hp, and 450tq to the tires. The funny part is, the torque peak is 3500 rpm. It's in a Dart, and is a brute to drive, even on 10" wide Hoosier QT Pros. The total cost was a little higher, due to a minor mishap that meant the .040 pistons were required, and .040 over is not an off-the-shelf oversize for anybody. But, it could be duplicated for about $6300 or so, soup to nutz. Many guys dont include things like, fuel system/pump, carb, water pump, all that stuff. The cost gets high. But, you have a pump gas small block that will embarass MANY big blocks, and costs less to build. You could do a similar deal with iron heads for about $5200, maybe a little less if you can assemble it yourself. Great engines.
