car title ???
« on: June 24, 2006 - 04:43:31 PM »
w :clueless: :feedback: :canada: I live in canada and there is a 70 barracuda with no title in the USA but the guy writes I talked to my friend today about the Title issue.  He told me that I will
have to get insurance on the car and go to the DMV and get temp tags.  At
that point, I will have a temporary Registration in my name.  I then will
make out a bill of sale and have it notorised to show that I am the current
registered owner.  He has sold 4 cars that have gone to Canada, and that is
how he had to do it.  There were no problems.  If you want to buy the car, I
will do this once I get a deposit. What do you guys think???? thanks Rob

Some states don't require a title on a car of a certain age.  So it could be feasible.  But I would be very weary of such a fellow unless you know him well enough to trust him. :aarg: Be Careful
Tom

I've done this before when a car had no title.  They need to establish a registration record somewhere else to prove ownership and that it isn't stolen.  Be careful as it could turn into a paper nightmare if it doesn't get done properly.

Rob,

If this guy is in Maryland, then he will DEFINITELY need to insure the car before he gets a title. I believe he will need a bill of sale from the previous owner too. Keep in mind, some states are more forgiving than others.
