Heat always coming out of the vent?
« on: June 28, 2006 - 10:51:54 AM »
When I drive my car around, there is always heat blowing out of the vent under the dash.  Is this normal?  I haven't charged my A/C system and checked it out yet, but when driving around in the summer...my feet get really warm!  I was just curious if this was a normal "flow-through" thing or if I have some problems I need to work out.  Also, it doesn't seem that my blower blows very hard.  Has anyone ever worked on this?  Any information would be great.  Thanks!

sounds to me like a door in the heater box is not closing , it should not be blowing hot air

I had/have a similar problem. The valve under the hood was not closing all the way and got quite warm inside car. Had to open hood and manually close valve. It only moved about an 1/8" but made a huge difference in cabin temp. The solution for this part is likely a minor cable adjustment.

As for the blower, I too have the same issue and wondering about mine as well. Think I will start w/ removing the blower-motor and see if there is an RPM difference when switching at the dash-panel. May need two people for that check and must make sure the motor housing is grounded during the test. If you get yours fixed before mine please advise as to your findings.

:iagree: Sounds as though you have a combination of both problems. If it's an A/C car you should have no air comming through with the switch in the off position, and even if you did the water valve in the off position should stop all of the water circulation into the heater core so you shouldn't have any warm air. None of the challengers that I have owned have blown much air with the factory blower motor, maybe there is an upgrade that will fit????

 I agree with this assessment.  I had the same problem and solved it the same way.  I also just bought a new blower because after thirty plus years you know it is pretty worn out just from age.  The improvement in air flow was significant.  As an aside item I'd mention you may want to check your vacumn lines to make sure they are all connected.  Once I fixed that on my car it defrosted the windows so much faster.

I had an A/C car that didn't have a heater control valve under the hood. They ran the heater hoses right to the engine just like in a Non-A/C car.  If you have an A/C car you have to have the cable operated shut-off valve mounted to the passenger side inner fender.

I have that, and it is brand new.  I will have to check the doors and such like stated before and look into a little more.

Like he said, make sure that the valve is closing all the way. Adjust it so the cable is adding extra pressure on it to keep it all the way closed.
