Carlisle Fairground SOLD !!!!
« on: June 17, 2006 - 03:58:37 PM »
I don't know if anybody posted this yet but this may be the last year for car shows at Carlisle. They wanted to expand but were out of room so they sold it and are looking at locations in York County.
Just thought I would pass it along.

I hope they can work something out, there is a lot of local pressure for them to stay.

Wow, I had no idea.  Thanks for the story.

I loved this line in the story where they were talking about so many repeat visitors every year for the car shows that sometimes they do other things besides the car show...."For example, my Corvette people took one day off from the car show last year to do a tour of the covered bridges in Perry County."  :roflsmiley: :roflsmiley:  That just kind of fits, doesn't it!! :roflsmiley:

I'll donate a little for the Kansas City move. I would love a four hour drive instead of a 17 hour drive. Those guys out east don't need two mopar shows anyway.

It would be nice if they could find some land a little flatter and easier to get to.  I certainly understand the businesses not wanting them to leave.

All I know is that if the car shows left Carlisle, that town would die. I hope it doesn't happen.

There was a story on the local news the other night about this - they have a buyer for the fairgrounds, but it's NOT final. The main problem was with a proposed expansion of the National Guard Armory for a military readiness center, which would take a lot of the land around the fairgrounds, which would drastically cut down on parking for their events. Here are a couple newspaper stories about what's going on:

Carlisle Sentinel
York Daily Record

This is from carsatcarlisle.com:

Quote
The Carlisle Fairgrounds and Carlisle Productions have not been sold.
There is much talk right now about the future of Carlisle Productions here at the Carlisle Fairgrounds and the great car shows that we present. This talk is due to the proposed development at the 1-108th National Guard Armory facility that is next door the fairgrounds.

The exact mission of the 1-108th that requires the further construction development of the site is not clear, but it is generally based on a program for the creation of Rapid Deployment Centers to facilitate Stryker Brigade fighting force activities.

Carlisle Productions has been working for some nearly 20 years to either preserve the parking that occurs at the armory or to simply acquire the land. There have been long-standing negotiations and conversations, but the land has remained in the custody of the Pennsylvania National Guard. Over the years, the relationship has been cooperative and friendly.

Our concerns are as follows:

1. The proposed development could dramatically impact parking during our events. We have relied on that parking capacity and we have great concerns if it is diminished or eliminated.

2. It is the position of this company that the proposed use does not comply with the applicable zoning ordinance, and we are arguing this position before the appropriate authorities.

3. Subsequent to the 9/11 terrorist attack that so changed America, this armory site was placed on “lockdown” status during Fall Carlisle. Our guests were not allowed to park or camp on the site, and more importantly were not allowed as much as to even walk across the armory property. We have concerns as to the future and how the development of this site might impact the operations of Carlisle Productions.

We’re working hard to preserve the Carlisle tradition and the community has rallied behind us. Stay tuned!

I just want to make this request: If this sale goes through, this forum will organize a yearly get together where we can cruise in for a long weekend and just have our own class act show and reunion. And we can make it a little more "mid west" so more of our members can attend. We can call it "Carlisle moved west show". I'll work my butt off to help it get off the ground, all other volunteers sign in below.   :villagers:

I would vote for the Midwest for sure!!  Right smack dab in the middle would be ok with me!

There are plenty of cornfields here that could be plenty of room for Mopars nationwide!!

Our 1 1/2 acres can park a few cars and is of course open anytime. However it is only a five hour drive west of Carlisle, actually to be more accessable to a wider range of members a Ill.,Ind.,or a Mich. site would probably be better suited. Besides nothing is finalized yet as I understand it, and usually things like this would take a couple years to come full circle, don't you think?
