Door Sticker Help
« on: July 03, 2006 - 10:32:51 AM »
I am getting very close to having the body of my car dipped in an alkaline bath and than e-coated but it has occured to me that when I do this I will disolve the door sticker with my Vin. Does anybody know of some way to remove it in one piece so that I can re-attached it after its bath?

I believe with proper identification of your car, you can have a reproduction sticker made with your V.I.N. stamped into it.  I believe the company is www.datatags.com

Another place to get a new door VIN sticker is ECS automotive concepts. They did some decals for me and do great work and offer package deals.

There are a two places that do it, ECS is by far the most accurate. Take photos of yours, send them a nice clear photo and get the new on BEFORE you have the car dipped.

There is no way I know of to preserve the original, the backing seperates when removed. You should save it as best you can before the dip though.

OK. Data tag was a bit cunfused with my email I got back this response.

That is a very difficult question since I make tags for Henry J's, Dusenberg's, Cadillacs and a whole bunch in between all the way back to 1924.

But if you are going to have a car dipped I strongly suggest you REMOVE the tag before it ever gets near a dip tank.

I checked out ECS and was able to order one up.

Thanks

Funny reading about the door sticker removal after seeing Gone In 60 Seconds on Speed last week.  They pull that door sticker off of the Challenger with a heat lamp. Did you try a heat gun?
