you could just look for a donor axle that you can just replace the axle with for now

I'll bet you're right about that.  ;D My question, though, is how many miles have you put on the green bearings? Could it be that you can load them really hard ... for 1,000 miles? or even 5,000? The original axle has gone 130,000, and I'd like the next one to go for another 100,000 or so. Chris, or anybody with long term experience with these?

I ran the same set for several seasons..1/4 mile asphalt circle track. 17-20 races a year avg night was 20-40 laps of practice, 10 lap heat , and 25 lap feature. mabey 1 in 4 nights a 15 lap "last chance" . about 5-8 times a year i would go to a thursday night open practice, i would avg about 60 laps for that. a couple times a year i would race another track also so that would be quite a few more laps. I estimate ive got about 6000 laps on the current set. that may only be 1500 miles. but its 16 really freekin hard turns and 8 hard accel/decel cycles per lap. (aprox 300hp through 4.56 gears in second in a 3500lb car). i figure that 1500miles is more abuse than any street car will see in 100k even if your an aggressive driver. I really strongly believe that once they are in and right you will NEVER have to worry about them again. my friend also runs them in his stock car and has also had no problems other than an axel that got hit and bent. sorry, if you get Tboned in the wheel they might not survive it, but neither will the housing or axel..(I do actually think the bearing seemed ok but he didnt chance it)

Chryco - That's in essence what I'm trying to do. I'm going to snag my 3.55 posi next weekend and put that in.

Another interesting question: the axle I'm picking up for install has (if I remember right) 11" brakes. I'm pretty sure that that will not require a master cylinder swap, but does it require another proportioning valve?

At the auto parts store, the wheel cylinders are the same for the 10" or 11" drums. I just picked up a pair last week.

Where is a good source for the "Green Bearings"?  I'm putting Wilwood brakes on the back and the tapered bearings have to go.  Also do the Green bearings have the spirolocks and O-ring housing seals?

Since some of you guys are still going to run Green Bearings on the street, please still use the inner axle grease seal.   A friend of mine has a housing without the provisions for the inner seals and now has gear lube on both brake drums.   

You should be able to get those bearings and have them installed at any good auto parts store.
