Body Parts preferences

I now have my Citronyella/bumble bee striped Challenger at home, but still only as a complete shell. Firstly I am so impressed with the quality that my young body friend (just started on his own) did as he is trying to get his own shop going. Everyone who sees the car (even my Chevvy friends) agree it was a fantastic job. Unfortunately for our American neighbours and World members this fellow is not available to you as he is in central British Columbia, Canada. A summary of what parts were the best and things I would do differently are for the list member's perusal
- RR quarter authentic Mopar repop - fit perfect (would buy again)
- LR quarter - Chinese piece of junk - would use the authentic expensive one next time
- Tray beneath rear window - reproduction was perfect and the fit was great. Even the interior window surround moulding screw holes were in the exact same place as the rusty original.
- Right hand trunk floor - replaced with repop - good fit
- Front floor tray (L&R) back to behind front seat (one piece) good fit
- Rear floor tray pans (L&R) seemed like it was for a Chevy or something. For some reason it was about a 1-1/2" too short fore and aft measured.
- lower front fender patches - junk junk junk
- Inner front fender braces (lowers) from Autobody Specialties - excellent repro.
- left side patch benath the hood hinge mounts - great fit, very expensive for what you get.
- Lower door skin patch right side - was ok
- repop outer rear wheelhouses - fit was ok. Body guy had to play a little
- R&L trunk floor extensions. Fit was good
- Rear valance - used a second hand one that a fellow replaced with new. Swapped licence plate mounts with him and used his entire piece. He is unhappy with the fit of the new replacement. I am happy with his old one repaired and now painted Citronyella.

Hope this helps everyone contemplating the same level of restoration. Seems like some parts fit perfect and some repops are just garbage. I was lucky because the windshield and rear window surrounds were perfect and only required sandblasting and painting. All in all one great looking job. Pics next week once I get back home with my camera this time.

What kind of rear axel is that , detroit locker ? Ahhh had a second look ,it`s a spool type :thinkerg:  :cheers:

Actually folks, it is  Ford rear end(Crown Vic cop rims).
Don't laugh - I did a 360 in the shop on my shoes, saw the pieces, and what you see is what I dreamed up to move the car around the body shop. Front has casters on steel legs. All tied to original bolt holes in the rails.

Stroker,
You mentioned that your trunk floor extensions were a good fit. May I ask where you purchased them from?
I just received new trunk floor extensions for my 71 Challenger and they look like partially formed, vague resemblences of what a blind man might hammer out with a sledge hammer. Did I expect too much? Sorry...no picture.... i'm posting from work.

Myleslong, I don't know whether you live in the US or Canada. I am in Western Canada (same town as Chryco) and I got my trunk extensions through Cross Canada Parts. I believe they are the same product that Goodmark sells. Maybe it is hit and miss with the fit if you also got yours through Goodmark.

I'm located outside of Detroit. I will check Goodmark to determine if their part is better. I tried test fitting my R/H part last night. It actually fit better than I expected. It will require re-shaping where it meets the outer wheelhouse. And none of the drain, fuel filler, or rear valance holes are in the part.Maybe they're all that way.

Myleslong - you are correct. There are no body holes in the new panels where the rubber bungs go in. Just keep the old junk for the patterns to replace the holes. Find a friendly electrician near you as most of those guys have a set of tools called knockout punches made by Greenlee. See if you can borrow the set as they are so close to the exact size of holes and they make a beautiful clean hole compared to the hacking and filing one has to do with a holesaw.
