NEWB with 1970 RT/SE Original 383 Car Now has 440 Magnum
« on: July 12, 2006 - 11:11:16 AM »
Hello All,

I purchased a 70 RT/SE Challenger late last year.  The cars vin and title all match, but it does have a rebuilt title.  The car was originally a dark green with green interior, but is now sublime with black interior.  It is an original 383 4 barrel car, but now has a healthy 440 in it.  The numbers matching engine is long gone.

Most of the car is solid and I will be beginning restoration work on it shortly.  The main question I have is what affect the rebuilt title has on the car.  I assume the car probably got in a minor bender many years ago before the values started increasing because I cannot find any signs of major collision repairs or repairs made to the frame.  My plan is to keep the car sublime, but put in white interior.

I have some pictures posted on photobucket.  The link is below:

Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the site, Stolby!  It sounds like you found a great restoration candidate.  As for your question, I don't think a rebuilt title will affect things too much for you. (I'd assume it must have had a salvage title given to it sometime in the past.)  Provided you have the car completely checked over and gone through as necessary during the restoration you should be okay. :2thumbs:

Awesome info guys.  I kinda suspected that when I purchased the car, but was not completely sure.

What are your thoughts on doing the car in my own color combo since I don't have the matching numbers 383 anyway.

I should end up with about 22K in the car when all restoration is complete.  I do not believe that is too bad for an original big block RT/SE car even with a clone to 440 instead of 383.

Welcome to the site. I think the rebuilt title issue will have little effect on the value of the car. I would build the car the way you want it and enjoy your ride.
