My Challenger is running much better.
« on: July 15, 2006 - 05:28:27 PM »
I replaced the intake gaskets and valley pan today. Getting the intake leak stopped has helped a bunch.I am now able to get it to idle below 1 thou and it runs a lot smoother. I am taking it to a local carb guru to get him to set the holley and to time the engine like it should be. ( The Chryco way) The guy that had my car before used wayyyy to much  permatex on it and to beat all he only had gaskets between the valley pan  and the heads, no gasket facing the intake  but man did he like the RTV.
It was a nice day here so I set up a canopy outside and worked outside today. It was windy so it stayed bearable, much better than being cooped up in the garage.

Glad to hear the beast is feeling better.Shame that most of us own cars that the previous owners didn't take such good care of ,but I'm sure your challenger is happy to be in caring ownership.  :2thumbs:

NEVER use RTV on an intake runners. ONLY where it hits the block front and back for oil.  It softens when contacted by gasoline vapors.

Previous owner was probably too cheap to use a new one and gooped it up.
