shifter rebuild
« on: June 12, 2006 - 11:31:18 AM »
Well it happened again Sunday, the car stuck between 2 gears. The shifter needs to be rebuilt and I called Hurst they will rebuild 5-10 days for $90.00  pluss shipping.  Anyone have any feedback with their work or turnaround time?  Think since it is so close to Carlisle I will have to yank it out of there and send it in for repair after we get back. seems to only get hung up when at a stop and shifting gears, shift while still rolling works fine.  Going to try and see if re-allinging helps, but I think the shifter is worn.

Any thoughts? can these only be rebuilt? can you buy new?

The first place I would go is Brewers.  I believe they have rebuilt units.  Hurst does not make a shifter specifically for the E body (wrong levers) anymore.

probably just cleaning & rebuilding it yourself will make a big difference , I can send a spare shifter for parts if needed  , you could also buy a new comp + shifter & use your levers

Here is the Brewers address http://www.brewersperformance.com/

The guy there told me that the E body shifters have different leves (inside the shifter) than the B body units.  I don't see why you can't make a B body shifter work though.

OK, now that we are back from Carlisle I'm pulling the shifter out and sending it to Hurst for rebuild, feels sloppy and I have adjusted the linkage.  An Old Mopar mechanic in my car club verified the shifter is worn.  Question is: do I need the installation kit also after it is rebuilt?  Need to send it soon so it will be back and in the car for Monster Mopar in Sept.

TY Chryco, if I knew how to rebuild it myself I would have taken you up on your offer of parts.
