Front suspension questions?

I am in the process of instaling a new polygraphite front suspension and on the passenger side the upper control arm (rear) bushing has a sleeve or collar on it while the drivers side does not. I had some front end work done 25 years ago but dont remember just what was done. They might of just left one side off. Is this piece that critical. Also does anyone have a trick for getting upper ball joints out---mine are really stuck so I just ordered an actual ball joint socket that will be in later this week..      thanks   Doug

Does the new bushing have inner and outer sleeves?  When I installed my poly front end kit the new bushings had both inner and outer sleeves.  Maybe a few pics would help everyone understand.  You'll probably need a little heat in addition to the correct socket as I did.

I have seen many original A arms with the addintional sleeve on them on 1 bushing only , I have never replaced them & other then additional support I have no idea why they are there

I haven't seen that extra sleeve on mine at all, but I do know from experience that the upper ball joint socket and an impact wrench is the best way for removing them.  Just be sure to soak them down very well with penetrating oil prior to trying to get them out otherwise you may be there for a while.

I think that you are looking at the caster/camber correction bushings from MOOG. After years of use, alignment problems popped up on unibodies not allowing enough adjustment with the factory cams. Offset bushings are put in to get a little more adjustment by pressing in the bushings with the hole either offset to the inside or outside depending on what was needed to align the front wheels.  I put a set in my upper control arms when I rebuilt them in the '80s. Ask any "old Style" auto parts store to look up upper control arm bushings for a Chal or Cuda and they'll see the "special" offset bushings.
