Intake Manifold Wiring Harness Standoff?

Hi guys,

I am getting the wiring to the engine buttoned up and I was wondering if I am missing some sort of bracket on the passenger side of my 383 along the valve cover/intake manifold valley.  The wiring harness has a plastic clip built into it so I am assuming something needs to be there to hold the wires off of the hot manifold.  Anyone have any ideas or possibly a picture that I can reference.  I would greatly appreciate it.

Are you running stock valve covers? do your valve covers have these clips/tabs? The ones on my engine probably are not the correct year for , but you should have something similar to this to clip the harness into otherwise the valve covers might not be the right ones - hopefully one of the other members can tell you for sure, or if you have aftermarket (aluminum) ones, they usually don't have any clips/tabs at all....can you post a picture of your engine?

I think the clip on your harness clipped on one of the firewall tabs before taking the 90 degree turn to the manifold.  Is the clip this far back?

My car did not have the OEM valve covers when I got it but now that I see your picture it all makes sense.  I am using the polished aluminum Mopar Performance covers so I don't have those clips.  I guess I will have to McGyver some sort of bracket to attached to one the the cover bolts.  Any other suggestions would be appreciated..

Ed,
I noticed in your pic that you don't have the foam pad around your expansion valve bulb in the freon return line. Make sure that you put that on before you try to get your A/C going or else you'll overheat the compressor and the hot condenser will raise the engine temp sky high.

Thanks for looking out for me.  I actually did pick up some pipe insulating foam today at Home Depot.  I am assuming that should be sufficient? The old piece appears similar just 35 years older...lol

On wednesday we are replacing the expansion valve with a new NOS one that my mechanic located for me. In the meantime I am just trying to tie up some of the smaller loose ends.  Thanks again.

Actually, I used the same pipe foam insulation from Lowes. It does look the same and has glue on the ends to close it together.

Is you old valve bad? I'll buy it from you since I'm putting together 2 A/C cars.  (everything was gone)

I am not sure if the valve works as the copper tubing looked like it had a leak. The car was not running when I got it and the system was discharged.  It is a rotisserie resto and all of the other A/C components are new so we didn't want a weak link in the system.  I would recommend buying a new one to be safe. They are only about $20 and my mechanic got mine from the local NAPA so they are still available.
