confused about 1970 Magnum 500 wheels
« on: May 04, 2006 - 06:17:34 PM »
Ok,
I am looking to buy a new set for my 70 Challenger RT/SE...15x7 front and 15x8 rears

question is this:

I called Wheel Vintiques to inquire about their Magnum 500 's and they say they are the same as for a Mustang but use a diff center cap and are polished rims so they DO NOT USE TRIM RINGS.......

I see pics of 1970 Challengers with and without trim rings so which is it supposed to be?

The magnums on my car now are 14in with trim rings and looks like argent painted rims with black centers......

whats up?

who all makes the Magnum 500's ?

ANY PROBLEMS TO LOOK OUT FOR ON A FRONT DRUM BRAKE CAR AS FAR AS CLEARANCE WITH A 15X7 RIM?

thanks,
stuart :clueless:

Challenger road wheels were 14" with trim rings, the wheels that WV sells are Ford replica wheels that just happen to fit Chrysler products.  I had 16" Magnum WV's on one of my old Challengers without trim rings.

Ok here is what I know about Magnum 500's.
First they came out in late 1966 and were available on the 67 model year cars. They only came in one size--14 x 5 1/2. These wheels were a one piece wheel with the outer ring chrome and the spokes brushed  chrome or dull finish with black painted sides. I have the original wheels on my 1967 GTX.
Second in 1968 chrysler intoduced the Road Wheel which was a 2 piece set up. The outer ring was a brushed alum. finished trim ring with chrome spokes and black sides.
These wheels came in 14 and 15 inch and were available to 1970--maybe 1971 but I'm not sure.
Third all the repro Magnum 500's come in any size and are a one piece wheel like the originals but are all chrome. The spokes are not brushed finished like the 1967 wheel.
This type also came on Fords ( Mustangs) and American Motors ( AMX--Javelin--SC ).
I have a set of the repro wheels on my 1970 Challenger.  They are not bad but the chrome is a little lite in some places. I have the 15 X 7's on drum brakes and have NO problems at all.
I hope this helps,

my '68 came with the 14" road wheels without trim rings as described above for '67.  Yes it came with WhiteWalls too.  Im the second owner and It was my Great-Aunt's car ordered from the Dodge dealer (her brother, my Great Uncle) so I have a complete history on it.

The Paddock used to have the '70 brushed trim ring style Magnum500s and trim rings in 15" size  (I have a catalog from '99 or so listing them, still have it in the drawer)  but I cant find them for sale on the net at all other than 14".     :stomp:

I would really like to have them '70 brushed trim ring style Magnum500s and trim rings in 15" size for my Challenger.  The all chrome Magnum500s just didnt do it for me, and Im starting to get bored with the Rallye's now too.    :-\

so, if a guy has a set of newer Magnums that came off of his 65 Mustang...will they fit my 73 Cuda?? Is it the same bolt pattern? they are 15 x 7's....
everybody seems to advertise they fit both cars, but I wanted to ask you guys first!
