New gas tank
« on: July 31, 2006 - 05:34:45 PM »
I just purchased a new gas tank for my 71 Challenger and would like to get it powdercoated and also lined. My question is what should be done first, the powdercoating or the liner on the inside. Thanks

The powder coating process uses about 400 degrees of heat to cook the paint on IIRC. I'd do the lining afterwards just to be safe.

BTW, where'd you get the tank?

:iagree:  wouldn't want the heat in the powder coat process to damage the liner...

I bought the tank and all the stainless steel lines fron InLine Tube in Shelby township, Mich. Tha tank cost me $179.00 shipped. I picked up the lines from there store but they had to drop ship the tank. Thanks for the reply's. I was thinking thats the way to go but wanted to be sure.

I just spent approx a week trying to figure out a vapor lock problem on a customers GTX , he had painted the tank flat black , the fuel was extremely hot inside the fuel tank
