Fender Tag Code for 71 Cuda Billboard?
« on: August 14, 2006 - 11:01:22 PM »
After reading Lyfish's post about his fender tag questions I have a question as to the M88 option code on a 71 Cuda fender tag. Does anyone have a 71 'cuda billboard car that can clarify this. There is a little ambiguity as to the correct definition of that code.  Some say "rear tail panel molding" and some also say "quarter panel tape treatment (ie, billboard)"

I would assume that all BS23 Cuda's came standard with the rear tail panel molding so why would they list it on the fender tag.  Could my car possibly have been an original billboard?  Inquiring minds want to know. :woohoo: :1zhelp:

I'm not the 71 expert, however I thought that the billboards were coded like other stripes and would have been V9X (X = color number)?????
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

Moulding codes started with M, IE, M88 - Tail panel moulding.

Vinyl codes started with V.

I looked at codes from 1970 - 1980 after seeing the other thread and there is NO mention of a body side molding code for M88 in those years.

Besides, billboards are over rated, soon every 1971 clone and hotrod  car will have those AND a shaker hood.  :faint:

The Nats in 2015 is going to be awfully boring, by then all cudas may look the same.  :villagers:

'71 billboard code is 'V6X' for black billboards or 'V6W' for white billboards (V6* is the side stripe code and the * denotes the color; billboards on '71's and hockey stick stripe on '70's). Those are the ONLY color choices and the ONLY stripe option. In '71 pinstripes are coded 'V7*' and NO 'V9*' stripe was available as that was a '70 only bumblebee stripe for Challengers only. Any code starting with 'M' such as 'M88' is a moulding code. M88 is the belt moulding that is the chrome moulding on the top of the door and quarter next to the windowfelts; Sorry no pic.

Sorry, but.............

M88 is the tailpanel moulding.

M31 is the body belt moulding. (flat area at top of doors and rear quarters)

God forbid someone decides to repro Challenger/Cuda bodies like the Dynacorn '69 Camaro....

Thanks for all the replies guys.  I see on my fender tag that I also have a V5X for body side molding which I would assume would not have been on a billboard car.

In my book M88 is: Deck Sill Lower Molding

and probably mean what Barry said.
