1971 Challenger engine and trans numbers
« on: August 08, 2006 - 07:09:23 AM »
Can anyone shed some light on what these numbers mean (if anything). These are on a 1971 Challenger 318 auto. I was hoping it was "numbers matching", but these stampings don't match the VIN.

VIN - JH23G1B217439
Transmission - 7G2423  4
Engine - 4M318  11280382

What does the 4M and 7G stand for? Any websites that would help?

Thanks, Mike
Mike

7g & 4 m are the year & plant 7G would be a 77 block from St Louis plant &  4m would be a 74 trans , I don`t have a listing for the M plant , probably opened after 70
