Lining a fuel tank.

What are the benifits of lining a gas tank? I have a new tank and was debating on having this done as far as the cost and the purpose of it. Comments?

When I restored the hardtop many years ago, I was unable to source a new gas tank.  So I had a radiator shop coat my tank with something they called "Gas Tank Renew"  It is a coating that is black on the outside and red on the inside.  Over the years it has held up really well and I have no complaints about it at all.  As a matter of fact I pulled it out recently while working on the rear end and it looked so goo, I decided to reinstall it instead of buying a new shiney tank!  But I guess in this day and age, with the availability of a new tank, I probably would not of coated the old tank and just bought new!   :naughty:

Si if I have a new tank, it would do me no good to have the inside lined?
I had the outside powder coated and I'm not sure if I should have the inside protected.

if it is rusting inside it will stop the rust , but a new tank is not overly expensive
