Whoohooo! It RUNS...crap I broke something
« on: August 07, 2006 - 07:24:14 AM »
Well, after many years, I got to drive my 74 Cuda, even if it was only in and out of the garage.

After 13, years of sitting (the engine was rebuilt about 8 years ago, but has not run more that 30 min) I finaly got that cr runing and moving, although not very well. The car will idle in park, but dies when you pull it into gear.

But it sure was nice to pull it out of the garage (only had it at my garage for about 2 months)and give it a bath.

Yep, runs and moves but I had to break something, adjusting the shif linkage, noticed it was hitting a tranny line and not going it to low, went to bend the line, and yep, it broke. Crap like I do not have enough to do!!

Here are some pics.

Very cool!

Feels great to start it up and move it around, even if it's in the driveway!  That's my big thrill too!

Just curious, is that a GM rim in front?  They fit?  I thougth they were like 4 3/4"?

Yep, Feels great to have it runing.

Good eye on the GM rim...long story short, I have GM adapters on the front (good deal on wheels many years ago).

Thansk guys, yep sure feels good, I have been floating around since last week when I got the car to idle on oits own!! :bananasmi :cooldancing: :burnout:

IT'S ALIVE!!!!!   (kinda)

Anything that sits that long is gonna have problems in the fuel system. You definitly want to clean out the Carb, lines, tank ect but the tank might need the whole boiling out treatment.

Some folks just replace old gas tanks, Might be cheaper in the long run.

Good advice for sure!

I have rebuilt the carb, although there are issues with it because it sat for so long.  It will be replaced before that car is driven on the road.

The gas tank was replaced soemtime in the 13 years it sat (forget when).

I have one of those stupid glass filters, so I can monitor the debris etc in the gas.  Looks good so far.

I might drop the tank just to make sure.

My bigger concer in the brake fluid and tranny fluid.

Shoud they be replaced or not.  the brakes and trany work, but who knows how old the fluid is.  Hell, I don't ever recal changing the tranny fluid/filter.

I look forward to fixing all the small stuff that I am finding.

Be careful w/the glass filter!  I had one break on my 66charger gas+distributor/exhaust  === :faint:  Luckily I just got home from a ride and was in my driveway and had washed it before I left--the wash bucket was still there with the big cotton mitt inside I just smothered it.  I carry an extinguisher now!

Good to see it out again got the itch now don't you!
