742 case

pulled the 742 case out of the 72 challenger and when I pulled the axle's out there was a button on the end of only one axle.It looks like someone else has been in here.My question is what are these buttons for?and I want to use this center on my 69 cuda,do I need these buttons if I use it in that 8 3/4.Thanks the clown

there should / needs to be 2 buttons to work properly , check in the bottom of the housing to see fi the other one is in there
 if not they are still available from Mopar
 What these do is allow you to set the end play so the bearings stay seated on the races on the end  of the axles

thanks chryco.Thats what I thought but wanted to make sure.One more question,if I use the green bearings do I still need to use the buttons.thanks again for all the help---------the clown

no the green brgs eliminate the need for the buttons , I still prefer the factory tapered roller brgs over the green brgs though

Also, the "spacer pkg" is still available from your dealer. There should have been the 2 spacers, and a rivet that holds them in place...The rivet rarely survives..lol.
