repop trunk lid
« on: August 18, 2006 - 07:50:00 AM »
I'm having no luck finding a good used trunk lid for the 70 Chally.  The car will be a  nice driver...not a show car when done.  How good are the repop lids?  who is the best to get it from? cost?

Moron alet:  I bought a 70 lid at Carlisle....it wound up being for a barracuda instead!!!   wrong corner shape!  Ive got 2 Chally lids that have rust...but may be useable with alot of work....

I'm trying to balance body shop labor against the price/quality of a new one.  opinions????

I got mine from Year One, it's not perfect, but it's not rubbish either. It needed a little work to become perfect, they come in primer so touch ups are easily done. Most are made in Korea/China whether you choose to believe it or not is up to you but it's the truth unless you buy fiberglass or what-not. 70% of repro stuff is utter crap and where you can good used (restorable) or NOS is the ultimate way to go.

For reference, Cuda hoods have no ridge down the center as per the Challengers, easy way to spot the difference.

I have used 5-6 goodmark lids , a couple needed a little "tweek" but nothing major.
As far as outweighing body labor,,,well, your only going to get about 5 or 6 hours labor before you meet the cost of the lid.
I say go with the a/m lid.  :2cents:
