Will 70 Challenger doors work on a 73 without problems?
« on: August 18, 2006 - 10:25:38 AM »
I found a guy who has a set of really nice 70 Challenger door shells, and I want to use them on my 73. I have to pick them up within the next day or two, so I need a quick answer. I just want to make sure that all of the internal stuff (window tracks, lock mechanisms, etc) will all transfer over from my doors. I think everything should work, but I'd feel a lot better if I got the word from some experts. Also, is there anything I should watch out for, internally? They are rust and bondo free because they came from a western car. Thanks

Everything will work. The only differences I know of are the mounting hole space for the mirror and the outer catwisker (outer window felt). The 70's had snap in clips and the other years had screws to hold it in place. If you order new felts, just make sure you order them for the 70 doors. :2thumbs:

Make sure that you change your door latches into the '70 doors or else you'll only be able to lock your doors with a key, from the outside.

I decided not to get these doors. It turns out that they are from a race car, and  there are large pieces cut out of them on the back side, where the door latch goes. I assume it was to make clearance for the rollbar setup. The guy said I could have pieces welded back into it, but I don't want to go that route. Anyway, I'm still looking for a nice set of 73 Chally doors.

1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.
