6.1 SRT and 5.7 Hemi Question
« on: October 08, 2005 - 12:32:52 PM »
This may not be the right forum but I have to ask.
Has any one here drove a car with the 6.1 SRT engine, if so how does it perform.
The wife has the new Charger with the 5.7 and it runs great. I never thought that my wife would have a faster car than my 5.7 Hemi Durango.
So when I get another car (The new 08 Challanger if they do make it) sence I sold the Cuda I would like to know if the SRT engine option is worth the extra cash for gaining only 75 HP in a daily driver. Thanks for your advice.

From what i get from the lx forums the srt is a lot more than just 75 hp, suspention ,brakes etc.and the hood scoop alone improves the looks .

75 HP is a big difference. And the aftermarket world and modifications will beable to be done to both. Now ask yourself a question. If you were back in 1971 and you were buying a 71 convert and  your options was a 440 or a hemi which would you get.

I have driven a few SRT8's now. Must have the 6.1L, is all I have to say.
The difference is like 383 to 440. Just pulls much harder and sounds great!!!

It's NOT just 75hp.  It's 20" wheels, 14" Brembo brakes, sport seats, better suspension, standard HID headlights, and some do-dads on the body.

It's an amazing bargain at only $6-7k more for all of that.

Also remember that w/the 6.1L, you get a forged steel crank, better header-like exhaust manifolds, free-flowing exhaust, forged pistons.

The only "negitive"(ha ha )is there is no mds, you get all 8 cyls all the time!

Not that that is a bad thing !

Bigger exhaust as well!!

I have a Dodge Magnum SRT8 with the 6.1 hemi, and I've added only a Mopar Cold-Air Intake...

It goes like stink.  When it hits 3500 rpm it starts to gulp air and sounds a bit scary.  Nascar-like, if you will....  I've had it at 120 and you wouldn't even notice until you look at the speedo.  Love that car.  I will wait for an SRT Challenger to see if they put the new 6.4 in it...
