4 speed w/out 3rd or 4th gear??
« on: August 27, 2006 - 09:52:54 AM »
Took my Cuda out last night, stopped for gas, hit Hwy and couldn't get 3rd or 4th gear.  The shifter moves into position, but feels real loose.

My transmission is new from Passion Performance, and I just had it installed 6 mnths ago, I haven't had any problems until last night.  Maybe 200-300 miles on the trans.

Does this sound like it could be a linkage problem?

Easy fix;
Sounds like you broke the fork off.  The brass ones shear right off.  Get a set of the late model steel forks and cut the tip off with a cut-off tool to use it on the old style side cover. You'll see what I mean when you get them. You want to always replace those brass forks anyway. At least you weren't racing it, without a rev-limiter, and end up bending all of your valves.

Edit:  If I were you, I would call Passon and ask for the steel forks.  6 mo. old isn't long enough.

You know, I believe I did get the upgraded fork...when I ordered the trans, he had mentions a stronger____, I think it may have been the fork.  I recall something being brass.  I don't know transmissions, but I did opt for the upgrade.  I didn't get a chance last night, but I'll check it out tonight.

Thanks

Well it turns out the rod coming down to the trans from the shifter came off the trans.  Looks like there was a cotter pin opened up and slid through the hole and twisted to hold it on.

Fortunately I think I can fix it tonight.

Thanks for the help.

Hurst still has the correct wrap around spring clips which work a lot better then the cotter pin
