small yoke driveshaft...would you trust it?
« on: December 04, 2006 - 04:01:27 PM »
With the combo listed below...would you trust a small yoke to handle the HP and drag radials on the dragstrip?  This is the original driveshaft from the small block setup.  Also, will an 8 3/4 489 cone style rear hold up with drag radials?

I ran my stock small u-joint driveshaft in my Challenger to  11.80's with the juice and 10 inch slicks with the front left tire about 6 inches off the pavement. But............bigger has to be better. :grinyes:

Yes I would and have. The driveshaft would probably fail first. It's better to go bigger tho. And you can buy solid joints too if you want. But for a safety concern....It's Christmas time so what's Santa bringing you?

I've done it too. But, when possible, I'd upgrade.

use it till it goes...if your concerned not that it would be a bad idea for a drag car or any car add a ... crap one of those thingies that the drive shaft goes thru that keepis it from falling and getting launched thru your bottom.... Safety Loop?  I think they are called..I imagine someone makes them for the E-body, if not you can buy or make a universal.

dunno if that will fit...my TTI pipes run very close to the driveshaft.  Guess it depends on how big the loop is.

Or just tack a strip of metal between the pipes.

Make sure the pinion angle is correct , it should be 4-7* nose down from the driveshaft , having that set properly takes a LOT of load off the U joint
