I see the clips on E-Bay occasionally. I don't think there is a gasket. Just goop.  :grinyes:

The front window on my 70 Cuda had previously been replaced and was in with goop.
The rear window had an original gasket of some sort in there.  It was extremely hard
rubber and it took everything I had to force one of those angled knives all the way
around it, probably took me an hour and a whole lot of cussing.  I thought it was just
hard window sealer until I noticed a tiny part number molded into a section that I trimmed
off.  I didn't note the part number.  I figured it would just be reinstalled with regular
window seal.

Mmccarty,
I wish you had that part number.  The '70-'71 parts catalog lists rear window weatherstrip only for the V/L (Valiant/Dart) bodies, and front windshield weatherstrip for V, L, and 1970 only R/W (Belvedere, Satellite, Coronet, Charger), used with a locking strip.  Everything else calls for 2807425 (rear '70-71 Challenger/Barracuda, '71, all other lines), same part number for the front on Barracuda, Challenger, Belvedere/Satellite, Coronet/Charger (there's a different front  kit for the full size car lines).

The manual calls for a rubber 'dam' to be applied to the inside of the window, 1/4" from the edge and angled out to the glass edge.  The actual sealer/adhesive was applied with a caulking gun into the area between the dam and the glass.  Perhaps the rubber part you saw was the dam?  It would have kept the adhesive from squeezing into the interior side, and keep the nasty sticky goo from getting all over the interior trim.  My windshield was replaced in 1981; I know they didn't use the dam, used too much goo, and failed to make sure the windshield channel was properly sealed because my inside trim was well stuck by extruded goop and there's rust in the channel.

I haven't found a part number for the dam itself, but perhaps it came with the kits listed above.  There's a part number for a rear window spacer, 15 feet long, but only lists for 1970 only (all car lines); I think its the rubber pieces used to center the glass in the opening, rather than the dam, despite the length listed.

Duodec, that sounds about right.  There was a rubber piece bonded to the window that made
a clean line around the inside.  It was cloth reinforced like a fan belt.  A sealer was applied
around it that oozed outward into the window channel.  I couldn't tell what shape the rubber
piece was or how wide it was because the rubber and sealer was just one solid mass under there.
Besides the trim clips, there were two, inch long metal clips secured by a screw into the window
channel along the bottom edge about six inches from each side.  They may or may not have been bonded
into the rubber piece.   It seems to me I saw the part number along the left hand metal clip.  I tore
the rubber away from the clip and somewhere on that rubber I saw numbers.  That's what led me
to believe the clips may have been molded into the rubber.  There was also some sort of black primer
(or maybe blackout paint?) that was applied around the window channel before the glass was installed.

I went out to the garage to see if I still had the scraps, but I think they went out with last week's trash.

I've been doing some reading on windshield installation.  It seems everybody
uses ribbon anymore and I didn't find any references to the rubber dam.  I'd
assume the metal clips were used in lieu of rubber setting blocks since the
rubber dam would have set on the clips instead of the window itself. The
15 foot "spacer" you mentioned sounds like the culprit.  With ribbon you
have to buy the correct thickness and use just the right amount of squish
to get the window to set at the proper height for the trim to fit correctly.
Using the rubber around the window kept goo off the interior side and always
set the window at the proper height.

Duodec, check the engineering drawings at:

There are six pages of window installation details along with methods
and part numbers.

the black primer is usually somew type of bond/sealer that is applied before the black goop/caulk.Never heard of the dam before but it makes sense for an asembly line.Try here for the moulding clips-  http://www.mrgusa.com/

MMCcarty,
thanks for that heads up.  I'm not used to visiting that page when looking for information yet; I need to start doing that.  Great info!
