    Okay, let's make sure I understand this ad completely....So it's a 318 car that has all proper information that "makes" it a sixpack car, but he clearly wants people to know it's really still a 318 ride....And yet somehow along those lines the price tag for a PROJECT 318 '70 Chally DO NOT match up with the asking price that would seem sane for a 318 car. :swear: :eek4:

    Isnt is possible that the front clip(maybe from a headon) was 318 but the car was a 6 pack?

    For 14k you get a restord 318 car :bigsmile: Its like that dude for like a year ago who sold Vin and fender plate for a 440+6 car... :villagers:

    So it's a factory six pac with A/C, eh? He'd be legit in CT until someone noticed the cowl number didnt match the title and dash. Then he'd be arrested for fraud, just for listing it the way he did.

    When these  cases come up PLEASE do NOT contact the seller. This car has been reported to law enforcement, but if the seller gets wind of it the "evidence" has a chance to disappear. The people that do this need a wake up call, that it true. But for the call to have any real meaning it needs to come from someone in law enforcement.  :2thumbs:

    If you see a car with a swapped VIN for sale, please contact me with the details, I have contacts in law enforcment ready and willing to take these guys down the right way.

    Barry,

     It is great that you inform the Police about these cars, but do you ever get feedback as to the course of action they have taken, or if the perps have been arrested? What happens to the car? If it gets confiscated, does it get sold at auction? Do they destroy it? I would like to have them tell you that the person has been arrested and charged and is currently in prison. It would be nice to see the results of your efforts. Keep up the good work.

    Well, I think the cars are evidence, that gets held until the end of the trial. I know of a citron yellow '71 CUda 340 ragtop, matching numbers freshly rebuilt, that was pulled from the body shop when the owner was bagged for selling drugs. It was a body shop. Th car is jambed, but still in primer, no top yet, just the frame/lift, and the engine was all redone and installed, carb to pan. The hood wasnt bolted on, so the car is sitting behind the local police station as evidence, open to the weather (no cover, nothing) and it's in CT. So come December, it will fill with snow. To bad really. At least my buddy got a RR off the guy the day before the bust.

    I do usually hear of them after the court case, sometimes before. In the case of a car titled with a "donor" VIN, here is a common scenario;

    The police look at the car, body numbers, title and so on. They check to see what the car was originaly sold as. If the body does not match the cars original numbers, the car wil be seized as evidence. What happens then is up to the courts. Usually the donor VIN will be destroyed, the perp gets some jail time and when he gets out he has to apply for a state issued VIN number if they let him keep the car.

    If the donor body was stolen, then he goes away longer.  :clapping:

    There are a lot of cases pending right now, too many.

    I apologize for hijacking this topic, but I have been wanting law enforcement or someone who can do it, trace back the ownership of my car.   I can go back 4 or 5 years but I want to know more about my car and make contact with the earlier owners.   I just want to know the history (as far back as is possible) and who knows, maybe someone may have an idea what happened to my original block.
