Morning everyone...I am getting a lot of information about paint jobs. It is good to know that some posts generate a lot of conversation.  Has anyone had experience with Peach paint shops?  It would be interesting to hear about them also. So far I am still in limbo as to what to do.  I really don't have much body work to do if any of you have looked at my pics   (http://www.big-dog.us/challenger/).   Keep the info comming. I believe the Peach & Maco places are all locally owned & operated, I know that is the case here, so your results WILL VARY based on many factors. I know of one horror story from our local Peach soooooo I would highly recommend that whoever you decide to go with get LOTS of references especially from people you know. Check into local car clubs & see what they think. Take lots of pictures of your vehicle as you leave it with them & get a sighed contract stating what they will be doing, when it will be completed, how much you will be charged and believe it or not what color your want your car painted.

Just got a couple more quotes.   Maaco would be at the most $1500. and Peach about $700.  Providing I did all the body work.  They sand with 320 and shoot. Base and Clear.  SOOOOO  Many options......

When Maaco does the paintjob, do they also do the primer, or is that extra?

I can see why you need the paint job..All that stuff hanging off it, and "just married" all over it? I'd sell it really. (can ya tell I'm married?)

I dont think the price quoted was out of line. Especially for a color using red pigments, and a color change. Regardless of body work. A show car paint job is over $10K for a drive in/drive out deal. Well over usually. A nice cruise night car, with blacked out under hood, and a closed trunk still needs flat sides and semi decent material if it's red. Cheap reds fade. In a matter of a couple years, it will begin to fade. Even in 2 stage urethanes. I'd go the "do the stripping and body work myself" route, then have Maaco shoot a better paint over it. All the shops I know wouldnt do a scuff and shoot deal for less than $2K.

Actually......And just to clarify that wedding picture, that was made in Aug of 1971 and that was my original 70 with a 340. .......http://www.big-dog.us/challenger/   This site shows the car I have now and stages it is in and has been thru.  I am leaning more to doing the work myself and getting the best Macco or Peach has to offer.   But you always question yourself if you are doing the correct thing.  Just hope it turns out good.

well, in my experience, that's subjective. Being nervous is normal. This means a lot in terms of $$ and emotion. Being satisfied for some is much more than just a new shiney color. For some, shiney doesnt matter, as long as it's only one color. Your decision is who can get your desired result for a price you can afford. Only you know those two details. Same rule of thumb.."If it's too cheap, it's worth every cent." I dont think the Maaco numbers are too cheap, with you doing the basic teardown and prep.

Mine was $6,000 for a complete '73 Chally. That's bout right.

WEll my husband paints cars and it depends on how nice of a job you want for a complete color change your looking at 4-5k and that is paint included PPG that is.Also to wet sand and buff the car your looking at another 700-1200.00 depends on how many stages of sanding you want.You can spend 10k for a show job again depends on how nice you want it.Go to maaco for a paint job and you get what you pay for garbage.They use sherwin williams paint i know due to a friend used to work there and told us.
