Starter Problems
« on: September 17, 2006 - 12:28:13 PM »
I am having problems starting the car once the car has been running for more than an hour. I have put a new reduction starter, but the problem persists. The car is definately charging and there is plenty of juice in the battery. Should I put some kind of heat shield on it or what ???

it may need a heat shield or the timing at idle could be too far advanced

How do your battery cables look? And are the connections clean? Cables are really cheap and if there the original ones I'd replace them anyway.
 Good luck with it.

Do you have headers? If so, the heat could be getting to the starter. A heat shield around it would help. Also, as was mentioned, this could be a timing issue.

Will try putting the timing light on it this week. Although, Yes - The headers are wrapped around the starter. So if that doesn't solve the problem will have to go with heat shield. Thanks.

The problem just got worse. Tonight, it was just clicking when I tried to start it and battery was very low. I got a hot shot (what an embarrassment) and on the way home I tried turning on the headlights and it started to die out. Then died out completely driving up my road and jus short of the garage.

Problem solved (Picture me kicking self in the A&#), I didn't put the wires onto the starter tight enough and over time from hitting bumps or whatever, they were a loose and arcing
on the headers.
