Caulk in? - tape in? your choice???
« on: September 05, 2006 - 06:23:15 PM »
2 methods to install front and rear Chally windows:

1)  use centering clips, then caulk in the back window with the tube stuff.
2)  use the 5/16 double sided butyl tape, no caulk,  (no centering clips??????)

what do you prefer and why?
Is this an easy do it yourselfer job??

Also:  are the front and rear window reveal clips of the 1970 Chally the same part number??

REV---- what did you use on your 70?

I have used the tube & caulked them in , make sure the trim clips are in place , the hardest part is getting an even bead , use spacing block to hold the window in place while it cures , make sure you don`t get the bead too thick so the trim will not sit over the window correctly
I haven`t used the Tape but it may be easier as it will go on evenly , I would still use spacing blocks

I had a friend help me with the install on my cuda windshield and we went the caulk method.  He had a gun that would lay a perfect bead  . . . worked great!

On the back i think the tape is the best and make sure you use the spacer blocks to center the glass,on the windsheild the caulk is easier becouse you can a little more time to center the glass in the frame.

I used the tape once, and didn't like it.  It has a string inside to keep it from stretching but stretches anyway.  When it stretches it gets thinner in that area that could keep you glass from sealing in that area. Also when you lay it down, 2 of the sides were already exposed to dirt and those sides could end up under the glass or painted area.

Tip:  Before putting in the glass, prime the lip all the way around in black.  A friend of mine had a freshly painted Lime-Green car. He laid some urethane in there and installed his glass.  Now from the outside, you can see lime-green showing all around the window next to the sealer.
