What are some of the specs on your car? Engine is a 318/340/360? What cam are you running and what's it's dur @ .50? This will just make it a little easier for me/others to voice our opinions.

I am not looking for a stall match to my combo but more of just a reliability/build quality/where to get sort of opinions.  In case you're still interested, here is what I know.  The block is a 72 340 with stock heads.  I have had the car for 6 years and as of yet have still not been able to locate a reliable source as to specifics on the internals and have not yet torn it down myself to look.  Basic bolt ons include performer rpm intake and long tube headers.  The cam pulls tons of vacuum and is very mild but I have a feeling that there is a bit more to the setup than can be seen.

well, as in all, you get what you pay for. In your case, if you're driving it, and it's pulling a lot of vacum at idle, and runnning a street gear, a lower stall unit might add some pep without braking the bank or loosing milage. MP has a few, I get them thru Mancini Racing, for around $200. The 145K version is basically a 1/2 step up from stock. The 166K is a very similar unit to the factory hemi convertors. Those would work fine for you. IN terms of more performance, PTC would be my first choice for being "right" and not costing too much for what you get. Next, Dynamic Torque Convertors, then Turbo Action, Coan, ATI, and the rest. You may want to stay clear of TCI, B&M, and the real inexpensive brands. Some of those you'll pay a lot for the results, or they wont last. Also, you may want to upgrade to an external cooler when you change convertors. If you go for a stall over 2400, I'd call that last part mandatory.

I run a 9 1/2" Dynamic in my car, Daily Driven, 3,900rpm flash/3,500rpm footbrake. Doesn't turn 1rpm over my old 2,500stall converter on the freeway. THATs a efficient converter  :2thumbs:

Not cheap, but you get what you pay for in converters, just my 2cents. Member DJVCuda used to have a MP 145k converter and went to the 9 1/2" Dynamic. He compared his rpm to mph in with the MP and the Dynamic. The Dynamic turns about 10more mph for the rpm compared to the MP...quite a difference.
