Newbie wanting some advice on this '70 Vert
« on: March 06, 2016 - 12:58:21 PM »
Hello all!!  Long time Mopar fan. My dream cars (mopars) when I was a kid in the late '60's and early '70's.  I got sidetracked by a '65 mustang fastback in high school 33 yrs ago.  still have it.

Anyway, I'm a mildly informed mopar guy and I'd like some advice on this car.  I see the obvious like the air cleaner, valve covers, missing AC.   Non original engine.  The color Hemi orange and the A66 are attractive. Rotisserie nut and bolt restoration. The stripe is odd but maybe an option?   What do you guys/gals think?

Thanks in advance!

Stripe belongs of a different car, never on a vert... The back end is a mess, the rear valance fits like crap, the bumper rises up & covers part of the tail lights...

Not the best pictures, I wouldn't even consider the car without a through inspection & even then the price is pretty high...

I'm betting after an inspection I'd have more reasons to think the price needs to come down...

Those side stripes were made by an amateur. Even though they can easily be replaced, I think the price is high, but I don't know the conversion of American dollars to Canadian at the moment.

Thanks for the replies!  The price is in USD.  I'll take a closer look at those pics and the aforementioned issues.

Yes the stripe is wrong, rear duck-tail spoiler is wrong also. In the few pics that we have, the car does look good. Not sure if it's worth $50k, but I can tell you that if you nit-pick these things to death your gonna find things wrong. If perfect is what your looking for, then expect to pay a lot more than that. Perfect is not cheap! Good luck

50K is too much IMO, I think you can find a better car for that money.

Thanks guys.  I am keeping my eyes open.  To close the deal the structural body issues would have to be addressed (valence and bumper).  The stripe will come off and I'll eventually get the optional bumble bee painted on.  I haven't seen too many '70-71 340 verts in the high impact colors in decent condition for under 50k yet but I've only been looking for a few months.

IMO...

Price seems high, in 2005 that would have been a deal but not anymore. for a car like that there are two ways to go at it.

1. If its a rare optioned car, maybe it has a numbers matching engine and trans, maybe it has history of some sort, you could go full restoration. Its already a convertible so it has value right off the bat.

Or

2. Make a hemi or 6 pack clone/tribute car

Based on what other cars are going for right now and what it needs ($$) I would not pay 50K

You never really said what your are looking for exactly; does it have to be a convertible? Look at Alan's AAR, more money but about 50 times the car.

Alan's AAR is a dream car - beautiful!

I am looking specifically for a convertible 70-71.  I do prefer the high impact colors are well.  The car can't be too pricey as I do want to drive it on cross country touring trips and feel ok with it getting some road wear.

The dealer is currently looking for a '70 340 short block to replace the cracked one. (I had them do a leak down and compression and it failed) block was cracked - non original)

You guys are awesome!  Thanks for all the input!

I can't find any evidence of it currently but John Scotti doesn't have a good rap. A quick google search of the name pulls up enough about organised crime in Montreal though.

Is it his ties to organized crime, or is it specifically with his car sales that gave him the bad rap?  The service so far has been pretty decent and he has been up front about making the car right. I won't complete the deal until the car has been thoroughly inspected by a third party.
