Ok, time to stir the pot a little, (It's ok I have been home long enough  ) I think if its a Ford go with a Ford engine, Ford has some pretty good engines out there 351C, 427, 429, 460, are all good engines.  Either way the car is going to be great and is going to turn heads no matter what engine its got.  Good luck.

This project is more than I thought there no real way of doing some things on a street rod, you have to do some real thinking and re-engineering. Started putting in the new shifter, (Lokar) last night I was really stressing on cutting up the tunnel, but after I called a fellow street rodder he came over and showed me what to do.

I plan on getting the shifter in tonight then checking all of the wiring on Saturday, I hope to put power to the system and see what works. I hope I don't melt the car to the ground.

yeah but the buildt ford will last a bit longer than the chevy, an the mopar about 2-3 times as long...its proven they are cheep cuz theyre cheep.also the mopar doesnt nead as many aftermarket parts cuz the stock stuff is better. so you really dont spend much more. i used to race against chevys who couldnt make as much power as me within the rules, and would blow up or nead to rebuild every season where i could go at least 2 seasons turning more rpm.

What's a "rail job"?

I was watching an old video tape called "Hollywood Knights" with Tony Danza and Michelle Pfieffer and Tony Danza had a supercharged '57 Chevy and tried to race a 427 Cobra but lost so one of his buddies said he's going to get his "rail job" and race the Cobra.

Is it some sort of T-bucket?  It sort of looked like it.  Or does it mean something else?

It means a front engine dragster.  Also called a Slingshot

Well my project is now a running project, put the power to it last night with a little prime in the carb it fired right up. Need to make a few adjustments and maybe a carb rebuild but other than that it seem OK. What kind of messed me up was it has a Crossfire HEI, and I didn't know they switched 2 & 3 plug wires......after that little mess up it ran fine.
