Engine clean up
« on: September 11, 2006 - 07:31:09 AM »
I was wondering does anybody have any suggestions on what to use to clean up engine compartment. What I mean is a spray to clean up valve covers and engine compartment to get off the accumulated crap that builds up on usage.

Thanks

Gunk is pretty good at getting off the grease.  :grinyes:

Will that take off undercoating too?  :clueless:  Thanks!

Q-tips, Toothbrush, Elbow Grease and Patience!!  :roflsmiley:

Be carefull with aftermarket valve covers, because I used something (don't remember what) and it took all of the finish off.  :hyper: Maybe test some small places before you do to much!  :2cents:

I'll have to go to Auto Zone to get a tub of Elbow Grease.  Is that like white lithium?  :smilielol:

It may not be the best product for removing undercoating but I believe it would soften it as undercoat is a carbon based product. If you are looking to dissolve undercoating I have found mineral spirits to be very effective.
UPDATE  It does not appear oven cleaner would be effective at removing undercoat. I just shot a spot & a couple of minutes & rubbing no undercoat came off, but it was very clean. I cannot speak for the long term effect. This was the "NO HEAT" Self Clean oven safe Easy Off.
