I have a dipstick #3870265 from a 77 Volare 318........it appears to be too long ?as in oil shows in excess of full by fair amount. I'm going to drain the oil from my 340 and put in a measured amount with a new filter.I've never run this engine so noy sure how much oils in it....believe they hold 4 qts plus the filter? Is there different lengths of dipsticks on small blocks.....if so which # do I need........thx.......

Different legths on some aftermarket dipsticks. Fill it up with 4 quarts, start then shut off to fill filter, them mark the new LOW level on the stick. Add the 5th quart, then mark the new FULL mark on the stick.
