Can someone explain to me what exactly "numbers matching" means?

Usually it means that all the numbers on the chassis and engine /transmission match each other.  That is the last 6 digits of the VIN are stamped on the radiator support, engine, fender tag, transmission, cowl, dashpad and the drivers side door has the sticker.  Other things judges look for is corrects date stamps like on the rearend, certain body parts ect

A non-numbers car would be something like a 1974 Plymouth 'Cuda with a 440 and 5-Speed Keisler. Both of which were not available from the factory (for that year, Keisler not at all) so the "numbers matching drivetrain" was removed & replaced in favour of a different combination. Clones/Non-numbers Mopars are also becoming valuable and a great way to enter the hobby for a limited budget (in most cases).
