Need help identifying an alternator
« on: October 09, 2006 - 07:52:25 AM »
After searching for ages for an alternator, it turns out there was one in the boxes of parts that came with the 383  :banghead:

So now I need some help identifying it as I cant find a complete part number on it so any help would be appreciated.  It is a round-back birdcage alternator, date stamped 71 and has the following numbers cast onto the casing:

On the front it has ?095191 with a 6 below it, and on the back it has 8173 below the manufacturers marking (IP & MCO in a diamond).  The first number doesn't seem to line up with any part numbers I have, but the second number matches the last 4 digits of the part number I am hoping it is, 3438173 which equates to a 70-71 50 amp alternator.  Also has a single pulley.

With 71 heads and now a 71 alternator, I'm starting to suspect that my 383 out of a 66 Charger, wasn't really a 66 ::)  Anyway, any help with the alternator would be appreciated.
