That is exactly the same as the LA plant was set up.  Do you remember if the car was still on the paint dolly or had it already been transfered to the assembly mule?

Plumcrazy,

It was on a paint dolly and it went right into the ovens to bake the enamel paint job.  You wouldn't believe the amount of old paint on those dollies.  Some times the old paint would chip off the dollies and you could see the hundreds of old layers of paint on the broken off chips, sort of like the growth rings on tree when you cut it.

I agree, the "blackout painted from a pit" is a myth.

Check out this photo from the 173 mile T/A, note the paint on the flat surfaces circled . If it was painted from a pit, either the painter had arms six feet long or there was a ladder in the pit. I have seen several other original paint cars with blackout paint in the same areas.

Looks like the issue is put to bed...we have several independent people verifying the blackout. Cool.
