hood alignment issues
« on: October 09, 2006 - 11:12:48 PM »
I'm having trouble getting the hood to line up on a 74 chally I'm putting back together. Any suggestions on what to do first??? Evertime I change something 1 thing gets better, but 2 get worse. The main problem is that the back hood corners on both sides just set too high when the hood is closed. Is there an order I should go in??? Thanks in advance for any and all help!

You need to adjust the hood hinges on the inner fender upward, and the snug them just tight.  Then lift the hood and loosen the rear bolts and rotate the hinge as viewed from the side, tighten the bolts and check the fit.  Repeat until you get the alignment right.

this works opposite to what you think will work ,basically as above , loosen the hinge bolts & have someone lift the front of the hood & keep lifting until the hinges move then snug the hinges down & try closing the hood , I hope this is a clearer way to explain it

I would use tape to protect the edges until I got the hood on there straight.   :2cents:

I had similar fit issues. I have acceptable gaps all the way around but the aft drivers side corner still wants to stay slightly up. YOu can push it down once closed but it still isnt right. I had played with the adjustments quite a bit and had assumed my drivers hinge may be worn.  I had to remove my hood to prep and paint the underside. I'll reference this thread when I reinstall. I hate to replace the hinges as they have both been chromed.

keep playing and adjusting as stated above,, taping the edges is a VERY good idea. You will get it to fit better, unless your hinges are worn out.
Look for slop at the rivet points on the hinges, if ANYTHING is sloppy, the hinge needs rebuilt.

If you are using new hood wedges on the top of the fenders try to remove them to line it up.i had to remove the springs one time from the repop wedges in order for the hood to sit right.
