Gas gauge
« on: August 04, 2003 - 01:58:05 PM »
Okay, fairly weird, someone swapped a '72 dash into my '70 Challenger.... My question, what are the connections on the back of the gas gauge?  It currently doesn't work, but I think its just a power supply issue, but I don't want to destroy the gauge or blow up the gas tank, so what goes where on a '72 Challenger standard cluster Gas gauge?

Thank you, almighty E-bod Gods!   ;D

 ??? Hey RabidScott,
Are you talking about a straight switch of 70 standard gauges, for 72 standard gauges? I didn't know there was a difference. Unfortunately, I have the rally gauges. So all I can say is the gauge has 2 wires on it. One comes directly from the sending unit in the gas tank. The other comes from a voltage regulator on back of the gauges. This is assuming the standard set-up is the same. Have no fear, this should be a simple one to solve.

also does the guage sit at all the way full or always empty???
if you check the power wire at the sending unit on the gas tank with a test light it should be on and flickering with the key on....then test to make sure you have a good ground which is attatched to the sender to body..Fuse was good?...also had 2 Cuda's now in which the float brass ball didn't float anymore and filled with fuel...therefore i was always on empty...hope it helps, just from my experience lately..

Hmmm.. I'll have to check when I get home.

It looks like someone took an entire '72 dash and put it in.... At first the 150 speedo kinda threw me off, because I thought in 1970 the standard dash only went to 120.  Then I noticed the Challenger tag instead of the scripted Challenger chrome piece on the dash.

The gauge always reads empty.  I'm fairly sure its just the power lead, because the other gauge pods were replaced with Autometers before I got it, and I had to re-run the power supply to them.  Just wanted to make sure what went where on the back of the gauge.
