another what's it worth. 67 273 fastback barracuda
« on: October 21, 2006 - 01:03:55 AM »
It's in fair shape, a little rust. Supposedly has the original motor and tranny. 3 on the tree, chrome banged up, or missing. Says heater core leaked so needs passenger floor panel. He also says it heeds a header panel, and rear quarters.

yes, i know  :useless: but I haven't had the time to get over and look at it. should have time Saturday or Sunday since I just dropped the fiance off at the airport.

would rather have a '71 vert, but wouldn't most everyone.

Here's its price and info copy/pasted from www.nadaguides.com:

Original MSRP: $2,720
Low Retail: $7,650
Average Retail: $14,760
High Retail: $25,320

Low Retail Value
This vehicle would be in mechanically functional condition, needing only minor reconditioning. The exterior paint, trim, and interior would show normal wear, needing only minor reconditioning. May also be a deteriorated restoration or a very poor amateur restoration. Most usable "as-is".

Some of the vehicles in this publication could be considered "Daily Drivers" and are not valued as a classic vehicle. When determining a value for a daily driver, it is recommended that the subscriber use the low retail value.

Note: This value does not represent a "parts car".

Average Retail Value
This vehicle would be in good condition overall. It could be an older restoration or a well-maintained original vehicle. Completely operable. The exterior paint, trim, and mechanics are presentable and serviceable inside and out. A "20-footer".

High Retail Value
This vehicle would be in excellent condition overall. It could be a completely restored or an extremely well maintained original vehicle showing very minimal wear. The exterior paint, trim, and mechanics are not in need of reconditioning. The interior would be in excellent condition. Note: This value does not represent a "100 Point" or "# 1" vehicle *.

* "100 Point" or "# 1" vehicle is not driven. It would generally be in a museum or transported in an enclosed trailer to concourse judging and car shows. This type of car would be stored in a climate-regulated facility.

I know this is like comparing a watermellon to an apple but I can pick this up  (click on the link) for $500.00 or less, haven't made a decision yet but maybe it will help some. A 64 is a long shot away from a 67 since the 67's are much more sought after. While we're at it, anyone know what this tag says? Not trying to steal the thread P6Popper, good luck, be sure to show us some pics when you get over to check it out.

unless its a formula s 235hp 273 4bbl numbers matching doesnt really matter. most have been swaped for 318's and doesnt seam to hurt the price the 318 is more than .5 liter bigger and a 318 has 50 more hp rating, 180 -230

I bought it today.  :ylsuper:
Nothing special about the car, except the frame is perfect. Only rust is pass floor where heater leaked, and about 2" on both rear quarters, including the trunk panel. Spare wheel well looks good, frame rails, torque boxes...
Appears to be the original 273 2v, with original tranny, but didn't check the numbers. Has an electrical gremlin which keeps the parking lights on with switch off, needs bushings for clutch Z, and maybe a clutch. Column shifter needs fixed, and brakes don't work. There is a crease on the rear pass fender, and banged up rear drivers from fender to door. Neither are in the body lines though.

Payed $2000 for her, should be able to pick her up tomorrow or Friday.
Now I just get to tell my finace what I did.  :clueless:

I will post more pics when I get some. I've wanted one of these since High School. It's even yellow.

Way cool score Purple6popper, What are your plans for the car?  I jest luv them A-body cudas!!!!!
I was over to the local Mopar clubs presidents house the other day & he is the original owner of a 66 HI-PO Dart GT 273 4brl.   The stock engine is really cool with finned aluminum topped valve covers chrome breather, and has a groovy single exhaust chrome muffler.
As for the fiance, I guess this may give you an idea of what your relationship is made of.  :roflsmiley: GOOD LUCK !

For now, the plans are rather basic.
Fix the electric gremlins, clutch, shifter, and brakes. Buy some rust encapsulator and lock down the rot. Tune her up, and drive her. In a couple years,  (been saying that for a while now) when the 70 chally's back on the road, I'll take the cuda into the shop and restore her. Probably put the 273 in the shed and build up a different small block with an auto, so I have the #'s gear if I ever want it. Of course, there will be other things, like carpet, upholstery, header panel....

As a bonus, I can teach my fiance how to drive a stick.  :22yikes:
