Heater/AC control box thingy problems
« on: October 16, 2006 - 08:21:35 PM »
I just bought this car (71 challenger) and all the buttons were stuck in.  I found out that the plastic plate on the back fell off the plastic spot welds, and apparently the guts to make the buttons come back out fell out.  Here are some pics to explain.

If anyone could help me out, and have took the back of this thing apart, that would be great.  And if someone has a junk one that the buttons still work, I would be interested in it for parts to fix this one.  Thanks in advance!

Steve

I had the same problem with mine. My first mistake was taking it apart to clean the buttons. Even after I figured out how the plates all went back together the dang thing never worked right again. Ended up get a new assembly off of Ebay. I've actually seen these things elsewhere like Paddock or Yearone, can't remember.

Year One sells a "master switch" in their catalog for about 50 bucks.

I've just done the same to mine - only problem is I read the manual AFTER I lubricated the prods - the manual says not to  :dupe:
because oil will damage the vacuum valves. I'm not sure if I've wrecked mine but that's the warning when working on the unit. I was able to glue my assembly / housing with araldite 2 pot glue - worked really well
