Name that wire
« on: October 28, 2006 - 10:22:31 PM »
I'm finishing up my wiring on my 73 340 cuda and hopefully firing it back to life tomorrow morning after a 2 year slumber. I have a question about one wire in particular. The wire is gray and had a strange connector on it. Is this the wire going to the ignition coil and an etension plugs into it??? I traced the wire and it goes thru a grommet on the firewall right next to the brake booster and is not part of the main bulkhead. I reversed the image color on the one pic so that you all could see the wire location where it goes thru the firewall better. Thanks again everyone for your help.

If I recall correctly, the only wires that come through the firewall outside of the bulkhead assembly are the road lamps and the wires for backup lights on a 4-speed car.  Check the engineering drawings on www.hamtramck-historical.com.

According to my "70 schematics there's also a "cruise control" wire that goes through the firewall (black w/tracer).

My 73 Challey has one wire just below/inside the brake booster that is either black or brown with yellow tracer that goes to the starter relay. It DOES NOT have a round plug but a flat plastic plug and if I recall correctly is the lockout to the auto transmission.

looking at a 73 cuda wiring- that is the feed wire to your tach.

in 73 ma mopar made a harness for the engine with connectors to mate up with the main harness in the engine bay- so the tacj wire hae the bullet connector then to the eyet for the coil.

Thanks everyone. I had a feeling thats what the wire was for 71 Deputy. I've got two more mystery wires to figure out then the riding lawnmower is getting pillaged for the gas tank temporarily so that I can fire that sucker back to life.

Thanks
