1969 Cuda 6 Barrel?
« on: October 30, 2006 - 10:57:28 AM »
I just bought a 1969 Barracuda 340 Formula S car. In decoding the fender tag it shows the E55 option. In the decoding site I'm using it says E55 is a 340-6 Barrel. I'm confused, I didn't think there were intakes like this in 69' What's the scoop? While this car does have the matching #'s motor, it is simply a cast 4 barrel manifold with carb. What does it mean 6 Barrel?       Thanks  :clueless:

In 1969 E55 was the standard 4bbl, only in 1970 it was the 6bbl. (Six Barrel = only AAR Cuda)

Actually didn't E55 just mean 340 engine?  :clueless:

There were 340 4 barrel engines then there was the Trans Am option which had the 6 pack set up.

6 Barrel was Plymouth's equivilent of Dodge's 6 pack, whick could be had on 340 + 440 engines= 3  x 2 barrel carbs.
1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.

E55 does mean 340 in 1969, 1970 and other years.

For the 340 sixpak you have to look for the A53 package code. (1970 only)

A53 was a code in other years with different meanings, but not for the T/A or AARs, so as far as the 340-6 goes it was 1970 only.
