Mine too. I love building 440s In its time that car never lost a race except for once, when I bent the clutch rod. Was faster than any street hemi too. Now its in pieces being restored. 70 Cuda 440-4spd. Hoping to get done for Carlisle. Are you going Chryco? Later!

I wasn't intending to make Carlisle a yearly trip But it is a blast , it just costs too much to go that far for a 2 days show !!

Actually in 2005 we went there on wednesday and got home sunday. There were already vendors there and plenty of deals made. This year went Thursday and came home saturday night. The nights are great in the swapmeet!

The casting on the side of the block is when the block was first cast. On the pad on a 70 F 440 you will sometimes find F 440 hp2. With sometimes a maltese cross signifying .001 undersize U.S crankshaft. Numbers below that mean when the engine was assembled and painted.  Trivia question.  Were all 1970 440 HP2 engines the same except for the cam 440-4 bbl or 440-6bbl ?  no  70 4406bbl hp had 10.5.1 the 70 440 4bbl hp had 9.7.1 in 71  6bbl had 10.3.1 : the 4bbl  had 9.7.1 :drunk:

You've bought into marketing..Do you acually believe Chrysler maintained anywhere close to that kind of  accuracy in regards to C/R? If so your never acually measured Chamber volumes or deck hieghts...It's not uncommon to find a 70 440 Magnum with stock pistons, rods & cylinder heads having a true C/R of 9.0-1 or a variation from cylinder to cylinder of .2-.4 which is why people take the time & spend the money to blueprint an engine... :2cents:

The 1970 440 hp 6bbl had 6pak pistons have 4 release valves in them. the 1970 440 hp 4bbl has none, they're flat top pistons. I just went by the factory rating, I didn't measure them. You wanted to know are they the same. So there is a difference.

Dont believe what you read in chiltons for compression. 440 standard low perf was 9.7-1 and were flattops. hp2 440-4&440-6 had 4 valve relief notches. I bought my Cuda in 1980, checked the motor out in 82 with 50k on it. 4 valve notches. My buddy bought a GTX 4 bbl. engine. 4 valve nothes. I could be wrong but its just what ive experianced. Oh it was a 70 GTX hp2.

I know ,Im confused too. Perhaps some 440-4s got them because they could get away with it. Who cares,  Drove a camaro with a 427. Did nothing for me. Nothing like the feeling of a pistol grip and a 440 pulling hard. :smokin:  :2thumbs:
