Any trick to getting the console door to line up correctly?
« on: November 02, 2006 - 11:35:55 AM »
Having a bit of a problem getting my console's door to line up correctly when installed.

The door itself does not appear to be warped at all, as it sits just fine without the hinge installed.

There's alot of adjustablilty with the hinge and lock catch but I just wanted to make sure there wasn't a trick to getting them to like up right before I sat down with it again.

Thanks!

No trick. Just keep adjusting until you’re happy with it. Keep in mind that the door is under tension when it’s shut. This tension along with the hinge probably being a little worn, will want to raise the door and make it unleveled with the rest of the console. Try this. With the door open and the hinge screws loose on the console, slide the hinge all the way down on the screws and then tighten them. If this doesn’t help to level the door, try rounding out the holes on the hinge so that the hinge can slide down a little more on the console. I hope this helps. Good luck!

I had a lot of fun trying getting mine to be straight & flush at the same time, I was able to get it pretty close with a few tweaks of the hinge. Remember that when trying to get a corner down or up you work on the opposite corner of the hinge. I don't believe there is such a thing as perfect you just have to find the best compromise.

Yeah... I'm not looking for perfection, but the way it is currently, the corner opposite the lock sits up about 1/4 of an inch. :-)

I think I'm gonna end up getting a repro hinge. Start fresh.

Thanks, guys.
