Sounds like the pin is ruined anyway & they are easily replaced Soooo maybe drill it out. Start with a drill bit a size or two smaller that the pin & once that bit goes through use the next size up etc. OH YEA did you soak with penitating oil 1st? I just did mine & and after the oil it tapped right out.

OK - I'd agree with abve and say you are at the point of just drilling it out.

Inside the coupler is another pin ( just what you wanted to hear ) that I found was even more difficult to remove. This other pin is in the steering shaft that I believe is the pivot point for the brakes in the coupler. I found this pin would not hammer out for anything, and I came up with a way to "press" it out while it was in place. This pin was solid and seemed to be hardened.

I believe the pin you are talking about is the one that keeps the steering gear box to the coupler, right? If so, and you have no way of getting it I think I'd be to the point of drilling it out to. This seems good for this one. Since I have JUST done the same, if you need a good measurement on that pin to pick a drill size without going over I'd be happy to measure mine.
Also, you will need to loosen the bolts on the firewall holding the steering shaft IN the car to slide the steering wheel/shaft towards the rear of the car for enough movement to get the coupler off the steering gear box once that pin is gone.

If there is anything pleease just ask, like I said I have just taken my power steering out and I'm going to add my manual box later this week.

You have to press out the pin first, Then remove the steering shaft. You will have to slide the steering column out about an inch and a half or so to clear the coupling. Be careful not to loose the two dogs and spring that are on the end of the shaft !

Thanks all, I have tried to drill the pin out.  I have gone through one titanium bit already.  I've stepped away from the steering box because I'm getting pissed off.  :pullinghair:  I'll try working on removing the steering box again this weekend.  I need something to go right on this car at this point. Thanks again.

sounds like a real pain in the arse,,,,,, from your pics, it looks as if the one side is out of the column a little bit,,,, Not sure but,,,, you may want to aply a small amout of heat to it and using your drift pin gently tap the already pushed out side of your pin back in to hellp free and cut the rust/debris away, then rotate your column and from the drilled and mashed side use your drift pin to push the spring pin back through the column,,,,,,Make sure you cleaned all your drill shavings out first so you can get a good seat on top of the pin to use your punch.   Or if it was drivable you could bring it over here and i could help you remove it,, Sometimes a new set of hands and hammers work wonders

I just did the k-frame on the hardtop and had to remove that pin.  I'll tell ya, I beat the sh!t out of that thing with a big sludge hammer for quite a while before it came loose.  I worked on it for awhile and got pissed off to and had to come back the next day and try again. Finally did break loose!  I knew how it comes apart as I had done the same thing to the convertible which was alot easier to remove.  Hope it works out for you!   :grinyes:

Soak it down with WD-40 , spray it everyday for about a week . That way it stays wet and has a chance to soak in. Then try beating it out. Try to use a drift pin that is as close to the same size as the hole in the coupling as possible. Is the engine in the car or out ?
